Adversity Is a Trader's Best Friend

It's been a fairly smooth ride so far in 2009, as I have been profitable on all but 4 days.  Best start of my 15 year career by far. But two of those days have come this week as we've experienced a major trend reversal.

After Monday's loss I went home defeated, jumped on the treadmill, drank a few beers afterwards, and debated why I continually do this to myself.  Anybody who thinks trading is a glorious lifestyle, you're welcome to come visit my house anytime! My wife needs to get an honorary psychologist's degree from somewhere for putting up with me.

After a good night's sleep on Monday night, I hit the terminal fresh and ready to conquer the world on Tuesday morning.  I focused intently on my setups and visualized success before ever making my first trade.  And guess what, I turned a profit as I was dialed in.

As traders we need adversity every now and then.  It always helps me re-focus, and just as any equity chart shows, move on to a new equity peak.  At the end of the year I can look at my equity chart for my account and easily see the psychological ups and downs. $$

I can relate to your wife!  My husband goes through this emotional roller coaster every week, but I know it's what has to happen as he learns how to balance emotions vs. smart trading.  Good luck!
